Ubuntu Desktop

While on my way home from my vacation last week, I was doing some researching on YouTube and decided it was time to find another system to install Ubuntu Server on and play around with some more Linux things. I grabbed a Lenovo M72e from a guy on Craigslist, but realized after getting it home that it was powerful enough to replace my laptop as my music production and photo editing laptop. The next day, I also came acorss a yardsale and found a 2013 21.5-inch iMac for $30. So, I figured I’d throw both of these in the office.

Since I didn’t use the Lenovo for Linux use and had a replacement for my 2015 laptop in the office/studio, I decided to go ahead and try out desktop Linux and install Ubuntu Desktop 20.04. The installation took some time, several hours. But once it was installed, everything seemed to work well, except for the webcam. The webcam on this laptop is horrible, and I’ve never used it, so that’s not a big deal.

I like the speed of Ubuntu compared to Windows, and it also takes up a lot less disk space. But outside of my creative work, I don’t do too much computer things besides checking email and SSH’ing into my server as of late, so it’s an operating system like any other as a casual computer user. I’ll check out some other desktop Linux distributions in the future.
