Knowing What’s Enough

As I’ve said in previous posts here, I got into the home server and Linux thing 6 months ago as a means to repurpose an old computer out of boredom and a desire to have somewhere to store my data. As I researched the field more and more, I realized that there a lot of things that can be done with these machines and that it can become a huge funnel of money and electricity. Although a lot of the things that can be done are technologically interesting, I realize that a lot of them aren’t things that I’m into; I don’t do media streaming outside of music, I don’t have any “smart” devices in my home, and I’m not a fan of “AI” (not yet on the latter, I’ve been seeing that there may be some things that I could use it for locally).

With that, I think that I’ve reach my goal in the home server world. Not saying that I’m stopping here. I’ll continue to build on what I have as not everything I have is exactly where I want it. But a web server, a personal data NAS, and a work NAS is all I really need. I do want to make things work smoother as far as the software side goes and I want to build bigger out of what I currently have (more/larger storage drives, faster local network connections, etc.), but I don’t see myself getting any deeper than what I have now.

I will continue to update this site with my progress and findings, as well as codes and scripts for others out there to use, so the site isn’t going anywhere. I’ve just realized that I’ve accomplished what I set out to accomplish. Now it’s just mastering that.
