A Surprise Package

After I got the OptiPlex 7040 that I talked about last week setup, I jumped on Reddit and asked for some suggestions on what I could do with it being that I don’t do any media streaming or have any smart things in my home, which seems to be the main things that people do with their home servers. One guy on Reddit reached out to me and offered to send me some RAM sticks to help me save a few dollars on upgrading the new system, which I accepted.

Yesterday, his package was deleivered while I was at work and required a signature, so I had to goo pick it up. So off to the post office I go this morning. After waiting in line for a while for the post office to open up, I get to the counter, hand the worker my slip, and wait a few moments for her to walk to the back. And this is what she handed me.

A 30-pound, 12×12-inch box! How much RAM did this dude send me?! I check the shipping label to make sure that I got the right package. Yup! It’s for me. So I tuck it under my arm and head on home. I get home and open up the box to a huge surprise…

My new friend from Reddit has not only sent me four RAM sticks, but also two whole computer! Two Dell OptiPlex: a 7050 Micro and a 7080 SFF. Both of these system were also nearly maxed out with upgrade. The 7050 Micro came with an Intel Core i7-6700, 16 GB of RAM, a 128 GB M.2 SSD, a 500 GB HDD, and a wireless adapter/antenna.

The 7080 came with an Intel Core i7-10700, 64 GB of RAM, a 258 GB M.2 SSD, and a 1TB HDD. Unfortunately, there was some shipping mishandling of the package that not only caused some denting on the chassy but also caused the HDD to be dead when it arrived to me. But I can’t complain about that too much.

I’m thankful for these and the person who sent them to me, but I don’t know what I’m going to do with all of this yet. I’m getting a little worried about my future electricity bill. But this is what I’ve gotten myself into.
